The Ned Weddings

Why it’s one of our favourite London venues to DJ

There are wedding venues that look beautiful in photographs, and then there are venues that seem to come alive when the music starts. The Ned is firmly in the second camp.

Set inside the former Midland Bank headquarters in the heart of London, The Ned is one of those rare venues that manages to feel grand, glamorous and genuinely fun all at once. With its original period details, dramatic event spaces and unmistakable 1920s character, it oozes atmosphere and charm even before the first record goes on.

And for us, that makes it a particularly exciting place to DJ.

We've played The Ned plenty of times, so we know the venue, the team and, importantly, what works when it comes to making the most of the space. We know how to load in and out, where everything is, and how the room tends to move once the party gets going.

A London wedding venue with plenty of character

The Ned was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1924 as the headquarters of Midland Bank, and the building's nickname comes from Lutyens himself, who was known as Ned.

Today, it's a Grade I listed building and one of London's most distinctive wedding venues. The former banking hall has been transformed into a lively hotel and events space, while retaining much of its original character, including the vast walnut banking counters and rows of verdite columns.

The building reopened as The Ned in 2017 following a five-year restoration, and the result is somewhere that feels completely of its time and completely current at the same time.

The wedding spaces on the sixth floor each have their own personality. There's the Tapestry Room, with its original walnut panelling, crystal chandeliers and remarkable 1920s tapestry, while the Drawing Room has a more intimate, club-like feel.

Then there's the history tucked away beneath it all. The Vault bar sits inside the original bank strongroom, behind a 20-tonne vault door and surrounded by thousands of original safety deposit boxes. It even featured in James Bond Goldfinger.

“We've played The Ned so many times that it feels like one of our home venues. We know the team, we know the space, and we know it can handle a proper party.” Laura Harvey.

Music is part of the experience

As we always say, a great wedding soundtrack isn't about picking a playlist and pressing play; it's about understanding the room; The Ned gives us plenty of room to work with.

The bar is in the same space as the dancefloor, which might sound like a small detail, but it makes a big difference. Guests don't disappear off to another room once the party starts, so the energy stays together. People can grab a drink, come straight back onto the dancefloor and remain part of what's happening.

The venue also lets us play at a proper volume, which makes a difference when you're there to create a party rather than simply provide background music.

For us, that might mean starting with something understated while guests arrive and settle in, building through dinner and drinks, and then knowing exactly when it's time to shift the energy towards the dancefloor.

The interiors have that rich, glamorous feel, but the music doesn't need to stay formal. Once the party gets going, the soundtrack can take things somewhere completely different - all based on your tastes. That's one of the many things we love about DJing weddings at The Ned.

A venue that knows how to throw a party

The Ned weddings offering is designed around the entire experience, from the ceremony and food through to the evening celebration. Its spaces can accommodate different styles and sizes of wedding, with dedicated event areas and dancefloors, while some wedding packages include DJ equipment.

But what really stands out to us is how well the venue works once the formalities are over; when the food has been served, the speeches are done and everyone has had enough champagne, you want a venue that can transition naturally from a beautiful wedding into a proper party.

We've also got to give a shout-out to the team. We've worked with the staff there loads of times and they're genuinely lovely, helpful and easy to work with. When you're a supplier arriving with equipment, navigating a busy venue and getting everything set up on time, that makes a huge difference.

And then there's the location…

At 27 Poultry, right by Bank, The Ned is incredibly easy to get to by public transport, which is a big plus for London weddings. Guests aren't having to trek out of the city - and neither are we!

What kind of playlist works at The Ned?

A setting like The Ned, effortlessly balances heritage style with modern London, and your wedding soundtrack can do the same. So for some couples, that might mean Disco and deep, melodic House, and for others, it's R&B throwbacks, Indie classics and late-night party anthems. The point isn't to force a particular sound onto the venue; it's to create something that feels right for the couple and for the people they've brought together.

Rather than sticking to a rigid playlist, our DJs build the night in real time. We watch the room, catch the shifts in energy and know when to lift the tempo, change direction or stay exactly where we are.

Why The Ned is one of our favourite London wedding venues

We've played at plenty of beautiful venues, but The Ned has that rare combination of setting, character and atmosphere that makes it particularly memorable from behind the decks.

It's glamorous without feeling stuffy, and historic without feeling old-fashioned. The team is brilliant, the location is incredibly convenient, and more importantly, it's a venue that genuinely lets the music be part of the experience.

For us, that's what makes a great wedding venue.
