There are country house wedding venues that feel polished to a fault, and then there are venues that have genuine rock ’n’ roll running through their walls: Voewood is unapologetically the second.
Tucked away in High Kelling near Holt, just a short drive from the North Norfolk coast, this Grade II* listed house set in Grade I listed gardens is widely considered architect Edward Schroeder Prior’s Arts and Crafts masterpiece. Built between 1903 and 1905 with its famous "butterfly plan" design, the house was literally carved from the earth it stands on.
Restored with incredible artistic flair by rare book dealer Simon Finch, Voewood is far from a stuffy museum, offering up bohemian private house party vibes, making it a brilliant eclectic wedding venue. And for those of us behind the decks, it remains one of our absolute favourite places to play.
An exclusive-use venue with accommodation on site across uniquely styled rooms, Voewood gives couples the freedom to gather their nearest and dearest for an entire weekend without the constraints of a traditional stately home.
From the tactile textures and retro rock memorabilia to the butterfly motifs woven throughout the rooms, every corner of the house has its own distinct personality:
A great wedding set isn’t about pressing play on a pre-set playlist; it’s about reading the room and reacting to the crowd, and Voewood gives you the freedom to do that without compromise.
One of the huge bonuses of having a Voewood wedding is that unlike many historic venues, they don’t impose rigid sound restrictions - the music can really be enjoyed. And there’s another small detail with a huge impact; the bar is set right next to the dancefloor - keeping the partygoers united!
Alongside the grand main spaces, Voewood has since added a dedicated party basement, giving partygoers an after-hours space, so your celebrations aren’t cut short: Voewood really is a party haven.
What sets Voewood weddings apart is that guests arrive ready to party. When the speeches are done, the feast is cleared, and everyone has hit the champagne, you want a venue that can transition naturally from a charming country wedding into a floor-filling, hands-in-the-air party - and that’s what you get in abundance here - party atmosphere.
We’ve had the privilege of playing at incredible locations across the UK and internationally, but Voewood stands out for its bold character and relaxed spirit.
It’s stylish without taking itself too seriously, historic without feeling haughty, and designed for people who love music, art, and a damn good party. For us behind the decks, that’s everything a wedding venue should be.
